Malama Kohala Kahakai

Preserving the North Kohala Coast

Most numerous intact, pre-contact archeological and cultural sites in the State.

The mission of the Malama Kohala Kahakai is to work collaboratively with the community of North Kohala and landowners to preserve the coast makai (oceanside) of the Akoni Pule Highway, preserving a 14 mile stretch of undeveloped coast.  We all need access to wilderness.   We secure outcomes where the community's and landowner's needs are met while protecting the natural environment and cultural sites.

Malama Kohala Kahakai

Malama Kohala Kahakai does whatever is needed to help protect coastal lands, from securing funding, to drafting up project plans, to assisting with map creation and securing expert witnesses and professionals, to crafting presentations, etc.  We work collaboratively with six other nonprofits and community groups.  Our project was launched through the North Kohala Community Resource Center in 2004.
